Aia Software offers ODF support

Nijmegen, 1 August 2007 - Aia Software, the supplier of the Correspondence and Document Platform ITP, now supports the OpenDocument Format (ODF). ODF is an open ISO standard used for the creation, storage and exchange of various types of documents. Users of ITP are now able to save their result documents in ODF, used, among other things, in the OpenOffice.org office suite.

The ODF standard was set with the objective to obtain access to documents for a longer period of time. The need for ODF support is growing, particularly in the government and semi-government sector. In Belgium, for example, ODF support will become compulsory. As of September 2008, all government administrations in Belgium will be required to exchange documents in ODF format. Aia Software is catering for this need by providing ODF support. As of now, ODF support will be a default feature of its ITP suite. Current users of the software will be able to add ODF support to their existing version of ITP by installing a simple update.

"Despite the fact that ODF is not compulsory in the Netherlands, we are witnessing a growing need at government and semi-government organisations for an open standard for document storage and exchange", comments Leon Pillich, CEO of Aia Software. "By adding ODF support to ITP, we are able to offer our customers an integral solution. In the meantime, Microsoft’s Office Open XML format has been accepted as a standard by Ecma (an international standards organisation for information and communication systems). The format has also been proposed as an ISO standard. Aia Software is currently working on adding support for this file format as well."
