A Killer App: ITP integrated in SharePoint2010
In March of this year I had the opportunity to visit Microsoft’s Executive Briefing Center in Redmond for an update on BPOS, Azure and related technologies. A lot of food for thought was served. The taste that I got of the new SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010 Web Apps though really got me thinking. I thought, “wow, combine SharePoint’s rich feature set with ITP and the capabilities to edit generated documents in Office Web Apps and we’ve got ourselves a new correspondence killer app”. Microsoft promised multi platform and multi browser support but of course did not show this at the time.
Back in the Netherlands I asked a developer to take a look at this and see if he could come up with something. He spent some time on that off and on and behold, in September of this year we were ready to demonstrate a world class correspondence solution brought to SharePoint with ITP! And amazingly, it proved to run so smoothly cross browser that I have since turned to demonstrating it with Google Chrome and Apple Safari … running on a Mac! And based on our discussions with the analyst community I think we are really on to something. So follow us next year to see where we will take this!
