Tips & Tricks: Rich text blocks
This section takes a closer look at ITP's specific functionalities and options.
What is it?
ITP offers the option of using text blocks, which are stand-alone content components, entirely separate from a document's logic and layout. These pieces of text can be edited using limited layout options.
Whenever you need greater layout functionality, rich text blocks are the solution: text blocks with all Microsoft Word layout features, including tabs, tables, and images.
What can you do with them?
Limiting the layout options for standard text blocks was a deliberate choice. Shape and layout are defined by a template to match the requirements and preferences of the corporate design, and text blocks are not supposed to deviate from those design rules.
However, if these restrictions are a reason not to use text blocks, rich text blocks offer a solution. Seeing as these do not have any restrictions on the kind of content placed in the text block, content that is hard-coded in a template can be converted into a text block. One example is inserting tables with invoice details.
The benefits
Rich text blocks enable to control layout and logic:
- making template management and maintenance by the IT department a far easier and less time-consuming affair.
- Business users themselves can take care of all aspects of document content maintenance.
A crucial benefit for both parties: due to the fact that business users can do more themselves, their dependency on the IT department diminishes, which, in turn, offers an opportunity to, for example, shorten time to market.
