Handling styles in subdocuments

ITP offers a limited mechanism for merging style definitions between the model document and the subdocuments. The style definitions in the model document will override the style definitions in the subdocuments.

The actual mechanism depends on the corresponding word processor:

• In WordPerfect 6.x/7/8/9, AmiPro, HTML, Microsoft Word, and OpenOffice.org all styles, which are used in both the model document and the subdocuments, are replaced by the style as defined in the model document. Any styles defined in more than one subdocument are replaced by the style as defined in the first subdocument which contained this style. All styles which are defined in a single subdocument are left as defined.
• ASCII documents do not contain styles.

Style definitions in model documents and subdocuments can also be handled with a special Style Document set with the setting ITPSTYLESHEET. The styles described in this Style Document will override the style definitions in the model documents and the sub documents. This mechanism is only available for Microsoft Word 97 and higher.

The setting ITPSTYLESHEET is fully integrated with the ITP/MDK Repository. Special style projects can be defined in which the Style Documents can be managed. ITP will match the styles by their names.
