Installing printer drivers
- Use locally installed printer drivers to create spool files. You can use the LPT1: device as printer port because the printer does not have to physically exist.
- Avoid using spaces in the name of the printers because some word processors have a problem with such names.
- Printers should never be put on hold. This will block the creation of the spool file until the printer is released.
- Wherever available, use printer drivers from the supplier of your printer. These drivers are usually more up-to-date and reliable than the drivers shipped with Microsoft Windows.
A good postscript printer driver that supports printers from many manufacturers is the Adobe PS Driver. Refer to http://www.adobe.com/products/printerdrivers/ for more information.
