Locating the log files

One of the first things our Helpdesk will ask you is to mail the logs. These logs are text files written to a specific folder structure created by ITP/Server in the log location for each machine. This location is specified in the tab Folders of each server. By default the ITP/Server installer will place the log folder of all servers in the ITPWork folder.

The top folder of the structure is named after the machine ITP/Server or ITP/Document Processors run on. In this folder folders are created following the list of components on the tab Components in the Administrator.

For example, an ITP/Server setup called TestServer with a ITP/Document Processor Manager, a watcher, and an ITP/Document Processor on one machine (called MACHINE_1) will result in the following folder structure in the system Temp folder:

MACHINE_1
	ITPServer [TestServer]
	ITPDPWatcher [TestServer]
	ITPDP [TestServer] #1

In these folders the logs can be found of the respective components.

The logs are rotated, the last one is always the one with the .log extension without a number.

You can open the logs in any text editor.

Note

Make sure that the account that runs the ITP/Server processes has sufficient authorization to write to the folder where the log files are written. If the ITP/Server does not have sufficient authorization to the log folder, it will not be able to start any of its services. If no log files are created by ITP/Server, check the Microsoft Windows event log for error messages.
