The default action (if set) of a document type is shown in bold in the shortcut menu for the file. With the *default command you can trigger that action.
The default action of a document type can be set through the Windows Explorer. Select 'Folder Options' in the 'Tools' menu of your Windows Explorer. Go to the 'Files types' tab and select the document type for which you want to set a default action. Click 'Advanced'. The 'Edit File Type' dialog appears in which actions can be added, edited, removed and set as the default action for the selected document type.
