The choice; Monitor versus HTTP Monitor

The difference between both monitors is security. The monitor is a program that can be controlled by distribution, whereas every Microsoft Windows machine comes with a browser. This is not to say that no security settings are needed with the Monitor but they are absolutely necessary with the HTTP Monitor. Refer to the chapter Security.

When to use the HTTP Monitor

Take the following into consideration:

• Is distributing software, i.e., the Monitor, an issue?

  and

• Is providing a share, so people can use the Monitor not an option?

  and/or

• Is access from outside the LAN necessary?

  Use the HTTP Monitor.

Otherwise, use the Monitor.
