The Logging tab

The settings on this tab apply to all Servers and Document Processors controlled by ITP/Document Processor Manager. You can choose to log to a file or to the Windows Event log. The Manager and Watcher have their own log as well as all Document Processors. Logs can be viewed by selecting a component on the Components tab and pressing the View log button.

Log level

This setting specifies to what level ITP/Server will log its status messages. The higher the value of Log Level the more will be logged. Choose 1 if you only want to see errors and choose 4 for debugging.

Possible values are:

0: Log error messages only.

1: Log warnings and level 0 messages.

2: Log progress messages and level 1 message.

3: Log informational messages and level 2 messages.

4: Log information about the script instructions that are executed and level 3 messages.

Log to file

When 'log to file' is selected ITP/Server will create log files for all Document Processors in the Log directories created at install. Access to these log files can be gained from the Document Processors tab.

Note

Make sure that the account that runs the ITP/Server processes has sufficient authorization to write to the directory where the log files are written. If ITP/Server has not sufficient authorization to the log directory, it will not be able to start any of its services. If no log files are created by ITP/Server, check the Windows event log for error messages.

Keep all log files

During start-up, ITP/Server will rotate its existing log files and create a new log file. If you select this option the number and size of the log files will be unlimited.

Rotate log files

During start-up, ITP/Server will rotate its existing log files and create a new log file. Select this option to enable rotating log files. Old files are named <logfiles><number>.log. The number and the size of the log files can be set.

Maximum size if the log files

With this setting you can limit the size of the log file per Document Processor. The default setting is 1000 KB.

Keep the last ... log files

Number of log files that will be kept.

If you want to keep all log files but still limit the total size of all log files, you can choose a high number of files (e.g. 9999) in combination with a rather small log file size (e.g. 1000 KB). The total log size per document processor will then be limited to the number of files multiplied by the maximum log file size (about 10 GB per Document Processor in this example).

Add date stamps to the log files

When this setting is set, ITP will add a date stamp to each entry in the log. This allows you to track events more closely in the log.

Cache messages in memory to improve performance

Check this option to have ITP/Server cache log lines in memory to improve performance. The setting "Write messages to disk at log level" indicates when ITP/Server will write the cached messages to disk. When a log line is generated at the log level specified in this setting, then ITP/Server will write all cached messages to the log file. For instance, if the setting is set to "2: Progress info, Warnings and Errors", then the cached log messages will be written each time a log message at level 2 is generated.

Log to the Windows Event log

Name of the Windows NT system to which ITP/Server will write its Event Log messages.

Windows host

It can be any valid Windows computer name. This computer must be running Windows NT and the NTService user must be authorized to write to the Event Log of this system. The default user id does not qualify. If this setting is not specified or invalid ITP/Server will write messages in the Event Log of the local system.

Local System is the default value.
