Work with client PCs

When a WindowsEnabler/400 request inside a terminal session job is issued, WindowsEnabler/400 must determine on which client PC the terminal emulator is running. In most instances, it is possible to determine the IP address of the PC running the terminal emulator. With this information, WindowsEnabler/400 can identify the appropriate job. From an interactive AS/400 job that runs in a terminal emulator on a PC a user or program sends a WindowsEnabler/400 request (1). WindowsEnabler/400 searches the appropriate WECM job and forwards the request (2). This job communicates with WindowsEnabler/400 on the PC. (3).

In some instances, WindowsEnabler/400 cannot automatically determine the client PC ID. For example, when you use Windows Terminal Server or when there is a firewall between you AS/400 and your PCs. In such instances, another PC ID retrieval method should be used. See the section Special TCP/IP set-ups and the section ID Retrieval for more information.
